Valet Fatally Shot in Buckhead, Four Other Lives Lost in Atlanta

Atlanta, GA – A weekend marred by gun violence in Atlanta took a devastating turn on Sunday, transforming the Labor Day holiday into a particularly deadly one, with barely more than 24 hours seeing five lives lost to gunfire. As the city grapples with this surge in violence, investigations are underway, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Valet’s Heroic Act Ends in Tragedy

The latest tragic incident occurred in the upscale neighborhood of Buckhead, where a valet met a heroic yet heartbreaking end while trying to prevent a car break-in. Around 1:40 a.m., Atlanta police responded to a distressing call reporting a person shot in the 2400 block of Piedmont Road. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Harrison Olvey by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office, was found suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite medical efforts, Olvey succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators reveal that Olvey was shot while attempting to thwart a man from breaking into a vehicle. Authorities are actively searching for a person of interest believed to be driving a newer model Kia with tinted windows. This individual is considered armed and dangerous, prompting a plea for anyone with information to contact Atlanta police.

A String of Tragedies Unfolds

The four other tragic shootings occurred within a span of just 12 hours on Saturday.

At approximately 1:05 a.m., Atlanta police discovered the lifeless body of 31-year-old Freddie Lowe near the Thomasville Recreation Center in southeast Atlanta. The shooting reportedly transpired at a residence in the 700 block of Norwood Road, less than a mile from where Lowe’s body was found. Leverett Hancock, aged 40, was apprehended and booked into the Fulton County Jail on charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

A mere two hours later, officers were summoned to the Fairburn Gordon apartments at 195 Fairburn Road, where 44-year-old Theon Elliot was found fatally shot. This complex has been featured in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s “Dangerous Dwellings” investigation, highlighting serious crimes and safety concerns within Atlanta neighborhoods.

Later in the day, two separate shootings occurred a few miles apart in northwest Atlanta, resulting in the deaths of a man and a woman. Around 10 a.m., police responded to the Magnolia Park apartment complex along Magnolia Way in the Vine City neighborhood. The male victim, 28-year-old Cordale Duncan, succumbed to his injuries. Homicide investigators are pursuing leads but have not released further details.

Approximately four miles away, police were called to the 900 block of Margaret Place near Westside Park for a person shot call. Officers found a woman, 64-year-old Kathy Mouldr, who showed no signs of life. She was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead. Detectives have identified a person of interest, described as a “known acquaintance of the victim,” and revealed that the incident stemmed from an eviction-related argument.

Investigations into these heart-wrenching shootings remain ongoing, as the city mourns the loss of these lives and grapples with the pressing issue of gun violence. Authorities urge the community to come forward with any information that can aid in resolving these cases and bring closure to the grieving families.
