Stephen Burkholder was born and raised in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, to the late Charles H. and Vera Y. (Herr) Burkholder. He shared a beautiful journey of love and companionship with his wife, Brenda J. Burkholder, for an incredible 41 years. Their enduring love story serves as an inspiration to many.

Stephen was known for his remarkable skills as a handyman. He embarked on numerous building projects throughout his life, with his most recent masterpiece being a charming greenhouse. His green thumb extended to his passion for gardening and crafting delicious food and wine, which he generously shared with his family. Brewing became a cherished father-son tradition, bringing joy and togetherness.

Stephen Burkholder cherished his role as a father and grandfather. He leaves behind a loving legacy in his children: Matthew A. Burkholder, Michael B. Burkholder, Rebecca B., and Andrew L. Burkholder. His five grandsons, John, Herman, Raphael, Simon, and Joshua, were a source of immense pride and joy. Stephen’s dedication to his family extended beyond leisure, as he was always ready to lend a helping hand whenever they needed it.

A memorial service to celebrate Stephen Burkholder’s life will be held on October 7, 2023, at 3:00 PM, at Alive Church located at 510 Stevens Road, Ephrata. Pastor Jeff High will officiate the service, providing comfort and guidance to family and friends. A private burial will take place at Groffdale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Stephen’s name to Mennonite Central Committee, P. O. Box 500, Akron, PA 17501. These contributions will honor his legacy and support the work of this charitable organization.
