Malcolm Belgrave Obituary: Remembering Malcolm Belgrave: A Tragic End to the Search for the Missing Hamilton Teen in Lake Ontario

The heart-wrenching news of the passing of 14-year-old Malcolm Belgrave has left the Hamilton community devastated. After a four-day search, the young boy’s body was found in Lake Ontario, bringing an end to the hopeful search for the missing teen.

Malcolm Belgrave is being fondly remembered by his family and friends as a loving and caring individual. The tragedy has deeply impacted those who knew him, and the community has come together to support his grieving family during this difficult time. A GoFundMe page titled “Remembering Malcolm Belgrave” has been set up to help the family with expenses for his memorial service.

The family expressed their profound sadness over Malcolm’s passing in a statement shared through the fundraiser. They described him as a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend who will be missed dearly. Malcolm was known for his positive spirit and the joy he brought to those around him.

The incident occurred when Malcolm, along with other teenagers, was out on the lake in an inflatable. Sadly, he disappeared under the choppy waters of Lake Ontario on a Saturday afternoon. Emergency services were immediately called to Hamilton Beach, near Clare and Dexter avenues, where they launched an intensive search that lasted for days.

According to reports, Malcolm was about 30 meters off the shore when he went missing. The weather conditions were challenging, with choppy waters and waves reaching as high as 1.5 meters. As the authorities arrived, rain began to fall, making the search even more challenging.

The family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all those who took part in the search efforts, including citizens and emergency responders. They also acknowledged the support received from Malcolm’s school, Cathedral High School, as well as his teammates from the East Hamilton Soccer Club and fellow cadets from the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Triumph. The outpouring of support from the community has been overwhelming, and the family expressed their appreciation for all the offers of help during this trying time.

Finally, on Wednesday, a civilian spotted something floating in the water between 700 and 1,000 meters off the shore, near Woodland Avenue and Beach Boulevard. After confirming with the teen’s family, the police issued a public notice confirming the tragic news that Malcolm Belgrave had been found dead.

The extensive search involved multiple agencies, including Hamilton firefighters and paramedics, the Halton and Niagara police marine units, Hamilton Beach Rescue, Ontario Provincial Police, and Mohawk College, which provided a drone for the search. The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Trenton also played a crucial role in providing information on water drift patterns to guide the search.

A memorial for Malcolm Belgrave was set up along the waterfront, featuring flowers, notes, and photos of the young boy, as a touching tribute to his memory.

As the community mourns the loss of this young soul, details about his memorial service are yet to be released. The tragedy serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment with our loved ones.
