Donald Bobyn Obituary: Remembering Donald Bobyn: A Tribute to a Beloved Clinical Staff Pharmacist at Interior Health Authority

Kelowna, BC – It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dr. David William Bobyn, a prominent Clinical Staff Pharmacist at Interior Health Authority. Dr. Bobyn, who was known to his friends and family as Donald, left this world on July 13, 2023, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of dedication and compassion.

Donald Bobyn was born on September 4, 1964, in Saskatoon, SK, to Dr. Patrick and Holly Bobyn, joining this world alongside his identical twin brother, David. The twins were the youngest of five boys in the Bobyn family, and they shared an unbreakable bond throughout their lives.

In 1976, the Bobyn family moved to Kelowna, BC, where Donald attended Dorothea Walker Elementary School and later graduated from OKM High School in 1982. His academic journey continued at the University of Saskatchewan, where he pursued a career in dentistry and graduated with distinction from the College of Dentistry, obtaining a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree in 1993.

After completing his dental education, Donald returned to the Okanagan to embark on a fulfilling dental career. He started as an associate with his close friend and lifelong mentor, Dr. Ian Leitch. Eventually, Donald established his own dental practice, the Glenvalley Dental Centre, where he worked tirelessly to provide top-notch dental health care to numerous patients over nearly three decades. Donald was passionate about incorporating the latest technology and innovations into his practice, always seeking ways to enhance his patients’ experience and wellbeing.

Beyond his professional life, Donald had a profound love for his family and friends. He was immensely proud of his children, Dana and Steven, and he played an active role in their lives from birth to adulthood. Donald’s greatest joy was sharing stories of Dana and Steven’s accomplishments and achievements, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

In addition to his dental practice and family, Donald had a passion for landscaping and gardening. He transformed his backyard into a beautiful oasis, enlisting the help of his vast network of friends and family to create various features, including a pizza oven, a built-in barbecue, fire pits, and more. Donald’s brother, Larry, often joined him on weekends to gather rocks from the hills around Kelowna to incorporate into his landscape designs.

Throughout his life, Donald maintained enduring friendships with numerous colleagues and close friends, particularly his pals Jack McEachnie and Scott Ferguson. Together, they embarked on many adventures and escapades, creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime.

Donald’s passing is deeply felt by his surviving family members, including his two children, Dana (Cameron) and Steven, his mother, Holly Anne, and his siblings Michael (Valerie), Larry (Holly), and Marty (Charlene). He is also survived by Martina, the mother of Dana and Steven. Donald was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Patrick Bobyn, in 1992 and his twin brother David in 2022.

A private family memorial service was held on July 28, 2023, to lay Donald to rest. Details regarding the celebration of his life will be announced at a later date, giving friends, colleagues, and well-wishers an opportunity to honor his memory and pay their respects.

As we mourn the loss of a remarkable clinical staff pharmacist, it is evident that Donald Bobyn’s contributions to his profession, his devotion to his family, and his zest for life have left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have known him. In his memory, we strive to carry forward his legacy of compassion, dedication, and love for others. Rest in peace, Donald Bobyn. You will be dearly missed.
